Happy Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week!

Esc

Seems like Michigan GOP Chairman Saulius "Saul" Anuzis is diss'n Governor Granholm for her proclimation observing elevator and escalator safety awareness week. So, the Michigan Caucus did some checking to see if Chairman Saul was at least consistent when it came to former Governor Engler. Lo and behold, we found the following letter hidden deep in the GOP archives:

November 15, 2001
Engler focuses on escalator safety awareness;
Michigan's families focus on security

Lansing area businessman Saulius "Saul" Anuzis today commended Gov. Engler for his efforts to raise awareness of escalator and elevator safety just two months after the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001.

"As we all know, this is a major issue that faces the people of Michigan," said Anuzis. "Our 26,000 escalators and elevators are the cause of countless accidents each and every year. I applaud the Governor and his team for putting the focus on this issue during the coming week. It's of the utmost importance that we focus on the safety and security of the people of Michigan - particularly our children. Surely, the condition of our elevators and escalators looms large when businesses are deciding to expand or locate in Michigan."

Engler issued an Executive Declaration in observance of Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week from November 11-17, 2001 to educate parents, senior citizens and other consumers about safety tips to prevent avoidable incidents and accidents. Engler has taken the lead on informing the people of Michigan about safety techniques when using escalators and elevators. Along side escalator safety, many Michigan families are concerned about their security from terrorists this week.

"While Engler worries about escalators," continued Anuzis, "Michigan's families are worried about security and terrorists. I join them in their concerns. One terrorist enters this state at least every 10 minutes, putting our families and our futures at risk. Engler should get his priorities straight because Michigan won't be more secure until we have a better governor."
