GOP Buys Detroit

Gopkwame_2

We're not kidding.

Well, gotta hand it to former State Representative George Pappageorge and his Republican buddies, they finally figured out a way to suppress the Detroit vote: buy it, or at least buy Kwame and the Kilpatricks.

Last year Pappageorge (R-Troy) advised his Republicanites that “if we do not suppress the Detroit vote, we're going to have a tough time in this election.†Justified howls of racism ensued. Pappageorge and his apologists tried to explain it all away; he didn't really want to suppress the Detroit vote, no. What he really meant was that he only wanted to, ah, er, suppress the Detroit vote. Get it? We don't.

Undeterred from the beating they got the Republicanites nevertheless devised a plan to suppress the Detroit vote by taking a lesson from Governor Jim Blanchard’s race against little known State Senator John Engler.  Blanchard missed a number of cues that year, but none were as bad as when he pissed-off Detroit Mayor Coleman Young. Not content to have Blanchard ignore him, Young put the word out for Detroiters to ignore the governor's race. Blanchard ended-up losing the election to Engler even though Senator Carl Levin easily beat his own opponent on the same ballot - with more votes than Jamie.

Come 2005 Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick finds that the traditional sources of Democratic money have gone to Freman Hendrix. Sensing an opportunity to gain the favor of the mayor and his mom, US Representative Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, the Republicanites arrange for a quick transfusion of GOP cash.

Pressed into service, Republicanite money man Jim Nicholson raised a couple of million for Kwame’s campaign coffers. Nicholson did his job so well that he now heads up Kilpatrick's “transition team.†Whatever that means. Afterall, its a transition from the Kwame Administration to the, ah, Kwame Administration. Hmmm ...

Expect Kilpatrick to heed his Republicanite handler's instructions next year and have Detroiters ignore another governor's race in 2006. Looks like Governor Jenny G. is history.
