Scoring the Chairmen's Propaganda
The propaganda war conÂtinues. This week MichÂigan Dem chair Mark BrewÂer beats GOP chair Saul Anuzis with an attack on Dick DeÂVos. AÂnuÂzis crapÂs out with an unÂÂinÂÂtelÂÂliÂÂgiÂble billÂboard atÂÂtackÂÂÂing GranÂholm. More ...
Good
thing Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca isn't running for
re-election and is expected to step-down when his term expires in
2009. But considering the weirdness that is Gorcyca these days,
we're not even sure he'll make it that far.
An average lawyer who's managed a below average perÂformance as the county's chief law enforcement ofÂficer, Gorcyca has "distinguished" himself in the last few months with his tortured investigation of the Cox-Fieger-O'Brien affair, his ham-fisted efforts to blackmail a circuit judge over her decades-old drunk driving charges and his public feud with the SouthÂfield police chief over the charges in the Thomas Hearns case.
Now comes news that he's pushed-out two long-time lieutenants, Deputy ProÂseÂcutor Jim Halushka and Warrants Division Chief Charles Claus apparently over their refusal to support Gorcyca's hand-picked successor, Chief Deputy Deborah Carley.
Got to love a guy who dumps his last wife with infant twins. Too personal? You bet.
Amid an investigation of Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca's use of the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) to intimitate a circuit judge comes news that Gorcyca has fired one member of his staff and suspended two others yesterday. More as the story develops.
The
Grand Conservative Wizard of the Michigan
ReÂpubÂlicanÂite Party, Bob
Gosselin (Troy), proÂposes to slash 7
perÂcent, or about $5,500, from every
lawÂmaker's payÂcheck. So far, just about
everyÂone in LanÂsing is runÂning
from the proÂpoÂsal and Gosselin - but not
the MichÂiÂgan Caucus. We love the
idea but underÂstand how difÂficult it could
be to get this thing movÂing. So, we sugÂgest
that Bob lead by examÂple and cut his salary by
14 percent, sell-off his million dollar portfolio and
donate it to chartity.
How 'bout it Bob?
Freshman
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith gets smacked by the US District
Court for screwing-up his firing of assistant prosecutor Maryann
BruÂder.
In a recently issued decision, Judge Julian Cook orders Smith to reinstate Bruder with back pay because he violated her due process rights by not allowing her to defend herself or telling her why she was being fired.
But Smith's office says Bruder was fired for making deputy sheriffs go into areas of Detroit "where crime is prevelent" to arrest a witness - thus subÂjectÂing the deputies to unnecessary risk and because Smith's lack of faith in her loyalty and trustÂworthÂiÂness.
Yeah, OK, Smith, get real. Making deputies go into areas of Detroit "where crime is prevelent?" Jeez. Crazy. Aren't law enforcement officers expected to do that kind of work? Something like asking firemen to, ah, put out a fire ... crazy.
