Saul Anuzis and Richard Nixon

Saul_1The Jobs Clock, Michigan "Gift" Baskets, illegal entry, press conferences at garbage dumps, in-your-face-blogs, pimpin' fellow party members and publishing "Broken Promises Calendars," ... , where did Michigan Republican State Party Chairman Saul Anuzis learn all these stunts, these tricks? Why at one of Michigan's colleges, that's where.

Last year we reported that Anuzis, while Chairman of the Young Republicans at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the 80's had the Student Government office phones tapped. Was it to listen-in on his Student Government rivals? Why would a Republican repeat the mistakes of Richard Nixon in the Watergate Scandal? Who knows, but at long last you can read about the controversy straight from the 1980 campus newspaper, the "Michigan Journal." Download MichiganJournal.80.11.26.pdf

The Dick DeVos Air Force

Remember that quaint article in the June 24, 2006, Detroit News where Dick DeVos says his wealth shouldn't be a campaign issue. His "detailed" statement even revealed that he owns three aircraft: a Cessna Citation III, a twin-engine jet that seats six; a Cessna Caravan, a single-engine plane that seats nine; and, a Cirrus SR-22, a single-engine airplane that seats four.

Jeez, three planes, wow! You think THAT'S rich, hold on ...

As a "substantial" owner in the Alticor syndicate, DeVos, his friends and family have easy access to the company's - get this - NINE jet aircraft and one helicopter. Hell, the auto companies may be running themselves into the ground but even the General Motors doesn't have this many aircraft. And we're not even counting the Boeing 737-300 that the DeVos family-owned Orlando Magic Basketball Team uses when they're tossin' around that orange spheroid.

All together, the DeVos clan controls FOURTEEN aircraft: 11 jets, two props and one helicopter. If Michigan ever went to war, the enemy would never get into the sky just from the congestion - assuming that these aircraft aren't in China or St. Marteen.

Open Posting

Axe2The Michigan Caucus editors and contributors (the "MC 5)" are happy to announce that the Caucus will no longer require authentication or email addresses before commentators can post. We hope people take advantage of the change and post more often.

Of course, you'll need to follow the Golden Rule in your posts - satire allowed, but insults are not. If you don't know the difference between the two, look them up in the dictionary.

DeVos Launches New Slogans

Michigan Caucus sources have learned that the DeVos for Governor campaign is launching two new campaign slogans to be released first in bumper stickers and eventually expanded to the entire campaign, including radio and television advertising. Campaign representatives believe the new slogans better reflect the philosophy of the campaign and the candidate. (The new bumper stickers, below the jump. Order them here).
