BREAKING! DeVos' October Surprise!
Sources close to the Michigan Caucus say that Dick Devos, the Republican nominee for governor, is planning an "October Surprise." A press conference has been scheduled by the DeVos campaign at 3:00 pm today in Grand Rapids.
DeVos is expected to announce his long-awaited plan to make-up the projected $3.5 billion revenue shortfall anticipated from the repeal of Michigan's Single Business Tax and other taxes DeVos says he would do away with. DeVos has received harsh critisim from the Democrats and the press for not revealing the specifics of his economic plan and how he would replace revenue lost from the tax repeals.
In an unprecidented move, DeVos will annouce that is he prepared to dip into his own personal fortune and pay the state's revenue shortfall - $3.5 billion or more - if elected govenor. DeVos could lose up to 0.2% of his net worth.
The Michigan Caucus Internet Commandos were able to hack into the DeVos for Governor site confirming that new content - announcing "Dick to Pay Your Taxes!" - was set to be published at the same time as the press conference.
Calls to the DeVos and Granholm campaigns were not returned, but Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewski says that DeVos' offer to pay off the deficit is simply a bald-faced effort to buy the governor's office, "Dick DeVos is desperate."
Unconfirmed reports also say that DeVos will support a repeal of the personal income tax, so long as people sign-up for an Amway distributorship.
