Stupid Admission of the Year

"When I came on the Michigan Court of Appeals about nine years ago, I did not know that the state could initiate a proceeding to terminate a parent's rights to that parent's children."

Whitbeck is currently the chief judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals.

He was first appointed to the court in 1997 and reelected in 1998 and 2004. His term expires January 1, 2011. Previously, he was director of the Office of State Employer, director of policy for the Public Service Commission, director of the Detroit area office for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, an administrative assistant to Gov. George Romney, a legislative analyst for the Department of Commerce and an attorney in private practice. He received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and his law degree from the University of Michigan. (From ICLE.org)
